Dr. Esther TAN

Chief, Software Systems Practice

Profile

Esther specialises in designing and developing internet / mobile solutions to support organisations' needs and business activities. Her current research areas include context aware, organizing and chunking information for mobile platform, mobile user interface design which includes visualization and presenting of information on small screen display. She also supervises mobile application projects with the latest wireless technology such as MMS, GPS and LBS. Her interests include tracking the internet and wireless technology trends and studying how these technologies can improve business processes. Prior to joining NUS-ISS, she was with the multimedia application centre at Singapore Polytechnic. Her experience included designing and developing multimedia applications and online learning packages. She was previously with Wearnes R&D centre as a firmware engineer, designing and developing BIOS for in-house designed computers.

Academic and Professional Experience

  • Managed the operation of Graduate Diploma in Systems Analysis including financial planning, recruitment, internship and graduation
  • Oversee the design of the Graduate Diploma in Systems Analysis curriculum
  • Taught object oriented analysis and design, mobile application design, web and mobile user interface design and development related topics
  • Conducted research and published papers on mobile information presentation and mobile application design subject
  • Supervised internship projects with start-up and MNC organisations
